Winter/Spring Session

November 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025

All Winter/Spring Session Micro-Residency artists receive:

  • Private room and bathroom complete with a queen size bed, linens, towels, soap, wi-fi, climate control and smart tv.

  • Access to the communal lounge with a fridge, microwave, coffee & tea bar, grab and go snacks, and kitchen sink.

Since artists will use their room as a workspace, our ideal winter/spring residents:

  • make small scaled 2-D work (drawing, collage, or any work that would not create damage to the space)

  • work in textile/fiber arts or fashion design

  • are writers, composers, photographers, graphic designers, scholars or artists whose projects involve working primarily on a computer.

Artists using paints of any kind (watercolor, acrylic, oil, gouache, dye, etc) and sculptors are not eligible for our Winter/Spring Micro-Residency. Please apply for our Summer Micro-Residency - applications open April 1, 2025!

We provide a four foot folding table and one chair per room for those who would like an additional work surface.

This residency is equal parts relaxation and productive work time. Our program attracts artists with many responsibilities (working artists, families, teachers) looking to make the most of their vacation days and seeking a way to integrate art making into their valuable time off.

It’s recommended for families (sleeps four with one queen bed and two twin beds) and those who would like extra space to work. Kitchen access (full stove, fridge and cooking equipment) is also included. Total residency fee is $500 per week for the Grier City Schoolhouse ($350 + $150) for a single artist.

    3. $50 additional per week, per partner or co-resident. The $350 residency fee only covers one artist in attendance at our program. 6. Please keep in mind that we must charge taxes & a credit card processing fee for all residency fees.

  5. Why do you charge a fee? The actual cost of a 7 day residency is $400. This cost reflects all our expenses (insurance, our innkeeper’s wage, loan payment and utilities). There is no profit built into our flat residency fee. We decided to offer residencies below cost because we know how expensive they can be and want to be accommodating to people regardless of financial status. We must charge more for additional persons in attendance with our artists in residence to cover the cost of extra supplies and additional labor required to run the program.

  6. Do you offer any supplies? We provide linens, towels, coffee & tea, snacks, wi-fi, climate control and space to sleep/work. Artists must bring all other desired supplies.

  7. Do you pay for travel expenses? We cannot cover travel expenses unfortunately.

  8. Do you accept groups, partners, families? Yes! The more the merrier. Keep in mind our standard rooms host a maximum of 2 people and the Junior Suite/Grier City Schoolhouse host a maximum of 4. Groups larger than two people will need to request additional rooms (at an additional cost) to occupy all their members. We recommend the Junior Suite or Grier City Schoolhouse for families or groups up to 4 people.

  9. Do you offer scholarships? Scholarships are donor dependent. Unfortunately, we are not offering scholarships at this time. If scholarships become available, we will announce them on our Instagram @bischoffinn. If you are interested in donating to our scholarship fund, please contact us at innkeeper@bischoffinn.com. Donations are tax deductible through our fiscal sponsorship with Stonehedge Gardens in Tamaqua.

  10. Do you have any tips? Yes! Make sure to take advantage of our restaurants and breweries during the weekend. Things close early here and are usually only open Friday & Saturday. Driving is the best way to get around, so bring a car or borrow a friend’s if you can.

  11. Are there groceries or good food available? We have a reliable grocery store called Boyers within walking distance. On Wednesdays from 8 am - 7 pm, visit Hometown Farmers Market, which has a large selection of fresh produce, fresh prepared foods, soft pretzels and baked goods at very reasonable prices. They also sell a large selection of antiques, books, records, video games, toiletries, you name it. There is also a Walmart with a grocery store within a 10 minute drive.
